LTC (Join to see) Complete agreement -- During my time in the Marine Corps,i met career NCO"S (E-5's -E-6's) with 20 or more years and were very efficient in their mos that did not expect to be promoted much farther, but carried out their duties with confidence and integrity.

I have always thought it was ridiculous to have a competent person in a specific job and release them because they are a little short on the criteria in place to be promoted. There is always a need for experienced and conscientious personal. Some people are followers, not leaders.

My first retirement parade was in the summer of 1955 at Ft Eustis, Va. A Corporal with 30 years service was retireing. He was a Truck Driver and that's all he ever wanted to do. He would have never lasted during the Up or Out era.
