I think he got off easier than he would have here in the US. Having to serve sentence in a PI prison won't be fun. But i suspect there is more to come, since it is the Philippine justice system.
If he had been given a proper "liberty brief"..i.e. do a "package check", especially in Asia, this probably would never had happened.
I like how they always mention the Daniel Smith case. They never mention that after the conviction the "victim" recanted her rape story. The conviction was over turned in 2009, then the "victim" got a US visa to join her American boyfriend in the US. That was the "settlement".

In certain locations transgenders actively seek out male military members. They come up to the guard wall and proposition Soldiers every day..... not just out in the clubs. New soldiers (after a joke or two) were properly briefed about the true identity of these individuals. Safety briefings were sure to have a line or two about "staying clear" or what not to do if a unwanted event happened. I wonder if similar briefs are happening for these Marines. Consideration must be given to the issue that overwhelming force was used and impulse control was overridden. How do we address these two factors?

Also to give this some perspective, this is what "Jennifer Laude" looked like.

Damn that's scary! Now a days you have to do an inspection check before taking a woman home lol.

CPT (Join to see) - Honestly, I'm not sure what I would have done had alcohol and other factors been involved. As It stands now, I wouldn't have been in this situation to begin with...

If Pemberton did indeed kill the transgender, then he absolutely got what he deserved. I just hope that he was given a fair and impartial trial.
