Thanks SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL for sharing the news that the Army is moving to replace its aging fleet of 74-foot landing craft [Mike boats] with the new Maneuver Support Vessel (Light), or MSV(L) which is planned to be "bigger and faster than the old Mike boats. Army specifications call for a craft about 100 feet long, about 30 feet wide, drawing less than four feet, able to hit a top speed of at least 18 knots and travel 360 miles."
Hopefully this MSV(L) will meet mid-to-long term requirements.

Have to retell my LCM8 funny-to-me story again. While stationed at GITMO our battalion had a platoon of M60 tanks attached. For some reason, tanks were being ferried across the bay from Windward to Leeward side on LCM8s, courtesy of the Navy. An M60 tank weighs 8 tons short of the max capacity of the Mike 8 Well I didn't see it but in the process of loading one of the tanks became off balance and slid across the deck into the bulkhead causing the Mike 8 boat to roll and the tank slid overboard to the bottom of GITMO Bay. This caused a great deal of consternation in the Marine Corps and esp for the Bn CO. The tank had to be fished out of the bay and shipped back to Camp Lejeune for a total overhaul.
