Where does it end? I've seen video of Havana that the propaganda ministry would never be happy about. Basement garages of buildings that are now open cesspools bubbling with unnamed bacteria. Crumbling edifices everywhere. Those classic American cars you seen on the streets are gutted and now powered by Soviet tractor engines. I'm sure the people could rebuild their nation with or without our help (with would be kinder) but an oppressive communist-style bureaucracy (much like the one evolving in DC) weighs heavily upon them. So, we should go down there and restore a writer's abandoned home? Sure, why not. Makes about as much sense as anything else we're doing these days.

You're absolutely correct. It's unreasonable to think the US can save the world but if we can save the house of an American writer than thats a small diplomatic win. Perhaps we are witnessing the beginning of Cuban Détente. Gotta start somewhere.

SSG Carlos Madden - Unfortunately there is no such thing as a cuban Détente, with them its a one way, their way. This administration blew it by not demanding any human rights concessions, all they have done is to legitimize the oldest dictatorship in the new world, which in turn has made the regime even more repressive.

Interesting tidbit, I actually met Bob Vila, at an old establishment in Bourbon Street, New Orleans a few years back, he was there representing "This Old House" I was at the same convention selling TV programming.
By the way while in High School, we used to call those "social gatherings" "Sets"!
