Wore that old steel pot for my entire career.
I had a photo of my wife in field uniform wearing a steel pot also,, she tore it up,,, lol
I recall many sore necks from wearing that pot.

I didn't wear any of those helmets, Jack, when I served during the Cold War. (actually, when I was inn Basic Training.)

The steel pot was good for digging, siting on, pillow, carrying water, weapon, or playing jungle soccer. After wearing it for awhile, you didn't feel it on your head.

I forgot to mention, that the camouflage band was good for holding you cigarettes, bug juice, tooth pick and, we all had our army nick name written on it, besides your last name.
