LT Brad McInnis, like you, I am a gun owner and solid supporter of the 2nd Amendment. The failures at DoD regarding reporting punitive discharges are inexcusable and unacceptable. Hopefully, enough attention has been levied safeguards will be enacted to prevent future occurrences.

This is a problem that never should have been... And to blame it on a budget issue is a flat out lie. Every base I have been on has had admin people that have spent more time setting up intramural sports than their jobs! If we actually force people to do the jobs they are paid to do, we wouldn't see things like this... My 2 cents at least, and yes I understand and have seen plenty of amazing admin personnel, but there have been plenty of slackers too....

Better late than never.
If the NICS does not run efficiently, it will only lead to increased demands for "waiting periods". There are still some people who want such delays, just to harass gun purchasers.
The excuse for a waiting period (pre-NICS) was so police could conduct a background investigation. With NICS, the only excuse they can come up with is a "cooling-off period", to supposedly stop someone from spending an untold amount of time going to a gun shop, buying a gun and ammo, then shooting someone in a VERY extended "fit of anger".
Strangely enough, the fact that the gun purchaser already owns several similar guns makes no impression on these "guardians of their fellow man". They will still insist on a "cooling-off period".

DoD needs to close the door on these jokers that have been separated like this so they can't legally buy a firearm. They'll still get them, but at least the legal option can't be an option. Good post, LT Brad McInnis.
