I think it's fine to add the registration requirement for women. If the US finds itself in a national security situation that is believed to be bad enough that it is necessary to start drafting people, than citizens of all genders should be expected to defend their country. Same thing if the American people decide to institute a peacetime draft. If peacetime service is deemed important enough to draft people than all citizens should be considered.

Given the mistrust of government that exists particularly in terms of believing their justifications for war, I think it would be very difficult for congress to reinstitute the draft. But should they do so, I support all genders being registered and also a minimum of types of deferments allowed.

LTC (Join to see) I agree with your assessment. I think the all volunteer service programs are working, along with our National Gaurd and Reserve units. Let's hope we never have to have the draft for any future conflicts. If we do it would have to be World War III! That is day I hope that I never see or my children, and so on!

That has been my position for a long time and have stated it here time and again. In a real shooting war on a global basis, there is little time to go out and find suitable conscripts to fill the need to protect the homeland. It is like an insurance policy, seldom used but when it is needed, the cost is high if you don't have it.

Why isn't registration automatic? let's just make it a step to get your first drivers license and be done with the whole thing for both sexes.
Doubtful that the draft will ever be reintroduced in my lifetime.
