Ok. I’ll bite. Yes Russia would use the Open Skies Treaty provisions to conduct intelligence gathering operations on adversaries and allies. But guess what, so do we, the US, and our allies in the treaty. Does anyone believe withdrawing from the treaty is going to change anything?

The Open Skies Treaty was SPECIFICALLY done to facilitate intelligence gathering in order to verify compliance with arms control treaties.

Yes I know. Oh the irony of the position of the Trump Admin; wouldn’t you say? Intelligence gathering would still continue regardless of the treaty but the treaty gives us some force protection measures.

MAJ James Woods - My guess is we have advanced a bit in technical capability since the '80s. That space plane wasn't in orbit for two years doing nothing.

1SG (Join to see) Open Skies involves both aircraft and orbital technology. Yeah I’m familiar with it and all the FPCON measures we take especially at sensitive installations and ranges when that time of year comes around.
