For decades, at the end of an international meeting or conference, the other foreign leaders knew they could get a sweetheart deal on some sort of trade thing in return for giving our president a great photo op and statement of friendship. It really started with Carter and the Japanese auto industry, back when he desperately needed all the good news he could get, but all our presidents since then, Republican or Democrat, have also played the game. Over six administrations, that has become dozens and dozens of onerous burdens on American businesses.

Not Trump. He said he would get rid of the unequal trade deals and regulations, and he fairly quickly defeated the 5 dwarves (Mexico, Canada, the EU, Japan, and Korea), and it appears the giant, China, is finally crumbling.
