If ACERM continues to receive development funding the concept has the potential to be migrated into other weapons systems. An April 2016 white paper authored jointly by NSWC Dahlgren, the Office of Naval Research (ONR), and ARL offered advanced configurations and concepts for ACERM. Among them were: a 120 mm ACERM; ACERM Air - a small form factor "small diameter bomb"-style capability for unmanned aerial systems; a naval ACERM that potentially could be adapted for use in naval 5-inch guns and could provide a low-cost fire support capability for littoral and riverine operations; and eXtreme Performance Configurations, dubbed ACERM-X, that would be capable of a 40-60 km maximum range.
