Not sure of the significance of shooting down a drone with a defensive weapon, if I understand the article. Is this ship too small for Aegis?

Since the LCS is replacing the FFG class it was not intended to be a AAW platform. Not all navy ships have to be Aegis, the Cyclone class has been very successful during its service and does not have the capabilities of the LCS.
