I went to CHENG school with the CO. He was taking over CHENG on a ship I had just come from. I have no idea how these collisions are happening. Something surely seems broke... You know as well as I, LCDR (Join to see) , that after Fitz, everyone had mando training on CO's Standing Orders and training covering maneuvering close to other ships. Just no idea what it going on, will wait for the investigation....

LCDR (Join to see) - I know the finding after the recent F-18 crashes was that the pilots didn't have enough training time. Generally, I think that is a cop out, but I wonder if what is happening is that there isn't enough time at sea/simulator time going on? I have no idea what the OPTEMPO is right now, but something is definitely off...

We used to name ships after ferocious animals, predators, and idealistic qualities (Enterprise, Defiance, etc) in hopes that it would inspire the crew. Is it possible that a crew can be inspired to be senile? Or, wait a moment, is that Sen McCain's father?

There's no bridge watchstanding experience in the SWO community. A SWO's first 18 months they bounce between the bridge and CIC. Their second tour depending on which position the take, they might just spend enough time to re-qual before they head down to CIC or CCS, then off to shore duty. Back to sea as a dept. head and now they stand TAO. You can have all the training in the world, but there is no substitute for experience.

I've been in Japan most of my career. Compared to the JMSDF, in terms of driving ships, we are JV.
