The article and title are a little misleading. While there are actual facilities that will be closed, most of these are vacant buildings co-located with facilities that are being used. On the campus in Milwaukee, they have the medical center, regional office, cemetery, and support offices housed in multiple buildings, but there are still several old buildings that have been empty for years, but are on the VA's books. They are considered historical and can't just get torn down. I know that there are other sites with similar issues.

I wonder what support those 1,165 vacant or underused buildings are actually being used for? Under BRAC many military facilities got moved over to another Service which did not really save any funds at all as they were still on the DoD dime. If those facilities are not bringing in bang for the buck, then sell em off to the civilian population and move those VA personnel into under manned facilities. Semper Fi.
