I think that is shows the actual state of affairs. Do I think Veterans were targeted? Doesn't seem to be the case, but who knows. We (as a country) have kicked God out of everywhere and we excuse bad behavior and celebrate anarchy. EVERYTHING is now politicized and the worst thing, the thing that NOBODY is talking about, is that our youth has lost all respect for life, authority and values so they can be the next YouTube star and claim their 15 minutes of fame. How do you change the sense of entitlement back to work hard for what you want? I really wish I knew the answer...

I don't think these two incidents are "targeting veterans" incidents. One appears to be a random case of robbery, where the veteran wasn't identified as a veteran and apparently had no connection to the shooter. The circumstances of the other is still unknown. I think they are just two unfortunate incidents involving veterans, rather than someone intentionally targeting veterans.
I've lived in St. Louis for over four years now. St. Louis appears to be no different than other major metropolitan areas I've lived in over the years. You have bad areas where crimes occur (so avoid them), and you have areas where you'll find little to no crime. I don't frequent the former (at all), and I live and work in the latter. Most of the people in this group know this, but the North St. Louis area (where you'll find Ferguson) is a bad part of town, primarily due to the extreme poverty in that area. The East St. Louis area (across the river on the Illinois side) has historically been a bad area. Those are two pockets in a metropolitan area of more than 3m people. The rest of the metropolitan area is actually pretty nice.
