Great post, on-point yet a sad message that the greatest generation is almost gone.

It is sad to read about the Russian suffering but wasn't all of that largely brought on by Joesph Stalin via his massive stupidity and paranoia. At any time Stalin could have stopped Hitlers rise to power but instead choose not to do so. He was one of the few leaders that had the influence politically in Germany at the time with the German Communist Party to form a coalition with their buddies the Social Democrats but choose instead to fight them at Stalins orders in the streets along with the Nazis. Stalin acted to destabilize Germany at every opportunity as it attempted to stay in the Democratic fold. Then after Hitlers rise to power when it dawned on him finally the disaster he created and the extremely vunerable position the Soviet Union was in after shooting most of its experienced military men, Stalin attempted to strike a deal with Hitler much like Nevile Chamberlin. Clearly at the time it was clear Hitler honored no past written agreement but Stalin went ahead anyway and again the price was Soviet treachery over Poland. Awful leader, I blame him for a good chunk of the suffering of the Russian people and the outbreak of World War II.
