LTC (Join to see) Whatever is necessary! The masses must be exposed to art and literature, and given a venue to learn about the the finer things of life.

I'm on the fence about this. I'm an avid reader as well as a video gamer. I don't see the two mediums coming together in harmony.

LTC (Join to see) - I respectfully would disagree with that. There are several books I have read that if done well, could be turned to video games. I think it would be easier to convert a novel to a video game than to a movie simply because there is no time limitation. Converting a novel to a movie means stripping a novel down to under three hours, while hopefully not butchering the story. A video game could easily keep the whole content in play. It would definitely have to be the right books, and the games would have to be done in the right way, but it is possible.

I think it's like comics combining with lit & novels to become "graphic novels" - not for everyone but I agree that anything that helps to promote art & reading is a good thing!

LTC (Join to see) It starts out kind of hypocritical, talking about reconnecting with nature, then creating it in a virtual world. I am not surprised that the art community is coming around. The effort put into video game aestheitcs is astounding. These games may have a niche market, but I doubt they will have mass appeal. Definitely not to the typical video game demographic.

To reference the conversation above as well as here, this is more what I was talking about. Some books do translate well into video games (some Lord of the Rings games, Shadow Complex, Shadows of the Empire [arguably STAR WARS were movies first...]) and maybe some others. (I'm trying to quickly research some lists.)
As far as the books turned to games in this article, I just don't see the appeal. You want a nature walk, go outside. Walden is a great book, but a game? The Joyce game looks cool, but I wouldn't be interested in playing it. So I agree with you and I correct myself. There are some great examples out there, but Thoreau and Joyce should remain on the page.

LTC (Join to see) - Definitely. They are taking a book genre that does not translate well to video medium, any video medium, and trying to make it a video game. Thoreau will be spinning in his grave.

I was saying basically the same above - that it's not for everyone. But like graphic novels, gaming has been around for a while but using it this way is a new media, and it'll be interesting to see how it develops.

I am not into video games but the article is quite interesting. The graphics are amazing.
