A devout __[fill in the blank]__ will have more sympathy for a "__[fill in the blank]__ fighter" than they will have for a "murderous sociopath" (even if the "murderous sociopath" claims to be fighting on behalf of __[fill in the blank]__) .

I'm coming around to preferring "Daesh" (pronounced as "dash" rather than "da esh") because it is close to the Arabic "daas" (pronounced very similarly to "dash") which means "to crush something underfoot" and that is what should be done to that bunch of murderous sociopaths.
