We (the family and I) went on a Caribbean cruise on the Disney Fantasy last November and I was astounded at the ship handling. I was first surprised that they made no use of tugs. With three thrusters forward and two aft, the captain placed that ship (more than 1,000 feet long) in tight places. Indeed, at one point we had to stop at a small island to disembark an injured passenger on a lifeboat to be air medevaced. While waiting, he had to compensate for wind, waves, and currents, holding the ship precisely in position. Thus, I'm surprised at this accident.

You'd think they'd've had a lookout with a radio on the stern. I wouldn't back a ship up without one.

SN Greg Wright - How do you know they don't? I spent several weeks learning about radio communications in the Army. Armored vehicles have several sets and they all fail just when you need them.

CPT Jack Durish - I'm assuming such a person would have called it in.
