When I went to school participation in Phys Ed was mandatory. It hasn’t been mandatory for many years. This is a contributing factor.

Screen time in general is a problem. The snacking of absolute garbage is a problem. Parents allowing both to happen is a problem.

The TV has absolutely nothing to do with it. It is the inactivity. More specifically the lack of exercise.
A kid who watches 2 hours of TV a day but ALSO exercises for an hour a day will be far better off than a kid who only watches Saturday morning cartoons for a total of 3 hours a week, but never exercises.
