This is legal pedophilia in today's age. When most of the laws were written, women were still considered chattel and could be given away by their fathers/mothers/legal guardians. So the laws have stayed on the books all these years without anyone thinking twice about it.
Arizona currently has a house bill, HB2006, which will outlaw all marriages for persons under the age of 18. Consent of a parent for a child between the ages of 16-18 to marry will no longer be allowed and judges may no longer grant marriages for those under the age of 16. The clerk of the superior court will not be allowed to issue a marriage license to anyone under the age of 18.
For those of you in Arizona, please contact your representatives and support this bill!!
