SSG (Join to see) he makes some valid points. Sadly he also says some patently ridiculous things that are not helpful in mending the race rift that has been re-opened in this nation.

Those are your opinions, and I welcome your contributions to the discussion. I do want to cherry pick one word that you chose to use: "re-opened." To say that the race rift has been "re-opened" in America would imply that it was actually closed at one point, which even the most cursory historical research would show is not the case.

SSG (Join to see) - Ok perhaps re-opened was a bad choice of words, but things have gotten far worse in the last three years than they had been in previous decade, which was the point I was trying to really make. We should in our "enlightened" society be moving closer to full equality, instead we are moving to a state where anything different is bad. Makes no sense at all to me.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - I don't think that things have really "gotten worse;" I think a lot of people are having their eyes opened to how bad things are now and have been for quite some time. A lot of people blame President Obama for causing more racial division in this country, when the reality couldn't be farther from the truth. The advent of social media becoming popular right around the time of Obama's election really brought the nasty underbelly of this country to light. Prior to, people didn't have Facebook or Twitter - those platforms to express what was really on their minds this whole time. Does that make sense?

Shirley, I could care less what you think. You still have not figured out that all caps makes you look like a jackass, Please go bother someone else. The adults are having a conversation. Your childish interjections do nothing to add to the conversation. That is the difference. You are being an ass for the sake of being an ass. SSG (Join to see) and I are exchanging ideas in a respectful manner.

I find that guy to be very informative and insightful. Having honest and open discussion will help, no one knows their experience better than those who are the ones that have experience with it. I think overall there is much to learn from each side. There are other ethnicities than 'white' & 'black'. In America I think it's important for us (blacks&whites) to find a better understanding. If there is a portion of white Americans that is racist equal to the size of the African American population, there still would be multiple times more white that aren't racist. #AMERIKKKA ~I've been seeing this tag pop up and thought of it when he pronounced America at the end. I don't think all the anger (not him, just a generalization)will help anyone.

I couldn't agree more. Yes, there are white people who are racist, just like there are black people who are racist. But racist *people* aren't the problem; the problem is the system that is slanted against anyone who isn't a wealthy heterosexual white Christian male. At the end of the day, we - all of us, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, etc. - need to sit down at the table and have those honest, open, painful and embarrassing discussions in order to effect change in that system.
