And that is a very weird looking gun turret forward of the conning tower, the link I'd submitted from Wikipedia mentioned it also carried a Lesson float plane abaft of the conning tower, which I'd though had only been done by, I believe, that gynormous I-400 Japanese monstrosity submarine used as an aircraft carrier that the Surcouf apparently rivaled in size, I'd also gathered, really weird story about free France vs Vichy France during ww2 involving the Surcouf, odd tale, as I'd said.

Sorry for typo, this tablet I'm on is temperamental at times, I'd of course meant to type "weird", obviously.

I feel your pain. Between small tablet and autocorrect I get strange posts all the time. At least RP lets you exit a post!

Weired story, one I'd never run across before, in the link here, which, hopefully, might show when I submit this, there's an interesting after note that the sub was apparently mentioned in passing in the film Casablanca. Also, read the part about the $1,000,000.00/prize offered by a retired USNR Capt who'd apparently offered it for proof that the sub was at all involved in anti-Allied actions during ww2, as I said, weird though interesting ww2 anecdote, hope was of interest, many thanks.

French submarine Surcouf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Surcouf was a French cruiser submarine ordered to be built in December 1927, launched on 18 October 1929, and commissioned in May 1934. Surcouf – named after the French privateer Robert Surcouf – was the largest submarine ever built until surpassed by the first Japanese I-400-classsubmarine in 1943. Her short wartime career was marked with controversy and conspiracy theories. She was classified as an "undersea cruiser" by sources of her time.
