Interesting opinion piece. Both of the political parties have both good and bad parts. And by the way, bad does not mean evil to me. Bad to me in this context means stupidity and ignorance, along with the assumption that compromise is a bad thing. But after being a lifelong Republican, I recently left the GOP for what I see as a lot of hypocrisy from those elected Republicans. And even though both parties are said to have their “principles”, politicians rarely subscribe to them, instead jockeying for power and rarely working to represent all of the people.

MSgt Neil Greenfield I think if you truly want to change the way Washington does business, we need to look at repealing the 17th Amendment and that will be a start. Only then will Senators truly represent the people of their states and not the party they fall under. Both sides are jockeying for power and I've yet to see politicians as a whole represent the people that elected them.

I think what takes so long for some is legacy. Their parents were democrats, their grand parents, friends other family etc. I registered in 1981 as a Republican because of Reagan mostly. I liked his style. The democrats railed against him like they do Trump. I could never understand their approach.

People are looking again at affiliation. Most people are fair minded and want to see the right things done. What the Clinton's and Obama's and to some degree the Bush family has done has led us to this point. Now we have full, all out destruction of those on the other side. The left doesn't debate ideas anymore, they just try to crush their opponents with anything they can using a willing participant, the media.

The media today doesn't talk about the economy, jobs, ISIS, the success of deregulation and a host of other positives going on but fair minded people see it and start to wonder what is going on.

Cpl Jeff N. Awesome post Sir! I'm constantly trying to have a discussion with people on the other side of the left side of the isle and it always turns angry on their side. They get frustrated that I use the Constitution and the rule of law and I get called all kinds of names. They are more interested in identifying as something rather than being an American. They're also being led to believe that they cannot take care of themselves and the Government is the only entity that can ensure they survive. Blows my mind that we no longer have free thinking and it seems everything is what I call situational politics and feelings. Sad state of affairs and I fear that we don't address it soon, our republic will ease to exist.
