The USMC has ( or had, not sure if its still going) an LDO program. It was limited inly to Warrant officers though. Mt SDI from Boot Camp went Warrant Officer then LDO. He was a 1st Lt LDO. Something happened and he ended up going back to CWO track and retired as a CWO5.
I also had a BN Commander in Supt Bn Lt Col Edwin Miller who was an LDO. Thios was a bit of a surprise as as I unsterstood it, LDOs onloy were to serve in their respective MOSs He was a Corrections Officer and had alreasdy been the CO of one or two Correctional facilties when he was sent to MCRD.
LtCol (05) id the highest an LDO can go.
Lt Col Miller was the finest officer I ever served under,
