Chicago isn't the only headline tonight. Tonight (weather permitting), you have a lunar three-fer: a full moon, supermoon, and seasonal blue moon.
What's a seasonal blue moon? Glad you asked. Unlike a monthly blue moon (two full moons in a calendar month), a seasonal blue moon is the third full moon in a season (spring, summer, etc). The next full moon will be September 17th (with the Fall Equinox close behind).
This phenomenon happens once every 15-20 years.
The supermoon will make the moon appear 14% larger and 30% brighter, and the blue moon will be visible to the naked eye. The next blue moon is expected in May 2027, but the combination of a blue moon and supermoon won’t happen again until January and March 2037.
Enjoy!
