They don't know what a sugar cookie is! In my day officers would take the pile of shit they have and each time it went up one rank add a little sugar. By the time it got to it's final destination it was a sugar cookie not a pile of shit. That high up great advice is so deluded it is worthless. Worked as an S2 NCOIC for the 187 out of Fort Cambell. BN CO preferred my view point of security because he didn't like sugar cookies. Leader needs the truth and a way to solve the problem. Not cookies.

Thanks for staring an interesting discussion Col Joseph Lenertz.
Hopefully the next POTUS will be wise enough and humble enough to seek sage advice on foreign policy and affairs including military operations and the preparation of the military to conduct such future operations.
Our national leadership was unique in that by Constitutional design the military has been led by civilians. There have been instances when military leaders became Presidents [Washington, Grant, Eisenhower] and others have served in the military [JFK, Carter, Bush, etc.]. In some cases military service has helped Presidents tackle military issues in other cases in hasn't.
This nation has typically prepared to fight the last war(s) by extrapolating from those engagements to what they believe the future holds. Spiral development helps us develop and modify technology as our requirements and potential enemy capabilities change.
Strategic intelligence is critical in shaping our view of the future battlefield.

None of them served! Most of them don't know a thing about war! Except Secretary Clinton!
