You can also get in touch with Military Order of the Purple Heart. They might be able to help if you find one with info of the recipient on it.
Purple Hearts are not engraved with the recipients name, at least mine wasn't. They might have been in the past but not now. Now a days, if it is, the recipient did it. I am thinking about engraving mine for my grandkids. So if it isn't labeled in any way sending to any organization is pretty much a waste.
Back in the day I can see them being engraved with the Name, Rank, Date of Injury. They came in some really nicely made cases unlike today's medals.
