Absolutely fascinating. It seems that the "New" World looked like a busy LA freeway long before Columbus "sailed the ocean blue". I have read of Chinese explorations providing maps that Magellan used in his circumnavigation (including the Staights of Magellan), Roman burial sites in Tennessee and Texas (littered with Legionnaire armor and arms), a tribe of blue eyed natives in the Mississippi Delta descended from Welsh settlers, and more. It's interesting to note that many place names in Puerto Rico are derived from Portuguese settlers who arrived before Columbus. And, of course, inasmuch as there is not evidence of any humans evolving in the New World, every indigenous tribe descends from early wanderers from Asia. Why then is Columbus credited with "discovering" the New World? Because he returned to tell the tale (called feedback) so he could claim the New World for his sponsors, the Spanish monarchy. None others returned with any lasting record of their discoveries.
