I used to be in the restaurant business and I view this differently as more or less a cleansing of whom really wants to be in the business from those that were trapped in the business and just barely hanging on marginally. While it is true we probably lost some good restaurants along the way the bulk of them were marginal at best. I left voluntarily prior to the pandemic because my Franchise company would not support catering or delivery to the home. Curious they do now as the pandemic forced them too in order to survive. Still I probably would have left anyway as the mall lease was outrageously over priced for the walk-in foot traffic I got. I was paying a NYC comparable lease price per sq foot for a North Dallas suburban location. Ridiculous. One decent catering engagement can more that double your daily take in profit, that is how lucrative it is......so it just really pissed me off the Franchisor would not support it.
