Very silly, shallow article. Also prejudiced. Americans are likely to dismiss the victims if they aren't like us? Or accept terrorists, "that's just the way they are"? Actually, I'd like to see commentary that is useful, like what can we do to protect ourselves? What can the government effectively do to protect us? Personally, I rely on "street smarts" (something you learn living in a city) and situational awareness. I wish our government was led by people who actually felt more allegiance to We the People. I often feel that some in the District of Calamity feel more allegiance to the terrorists (yes, I really am being serious and it's justified). This article is also fatalistic, an attitude also shared by many in Washington.

I grew up with terrorism in Germany, followed the struggle in Northern Ireland, as a young soldier I was in Germany again while the Red Army Faction (RAF) was targeting US troops in Germany. When we moved to Mississippi I became acquainted with the terror of the KKK... Terrorism has always existed, it's been a threat my whole life.

That said, I question instead the power our government wants to give terrorists... power that justifies it's own move toward becoming a police state. The ability to arrest and detain people indefinitely and without trial, the ability to classify it's actions in such a way as to avoid public scrutiny of controversial decisions, and the ability to collect data on all Americans without a warrant are all tied to the governments war against terror.

How dangerous are terrorists really? What are my chances of being killed by a terrorist here in the United States? The threat has been blown out of proportion and sensationalized. Our media and our government conspire to make money and spend money on Defense and National Security that would be better spent on infrastructure and education. If media sensationalized the millions injured and the tens of thousands killed in traffic accidents each year, most Americans would be prepared to give up cars in a generation in favor of public transit... however at least the risk of terrorism would be put into some sort of perspective.

Terrorism's greatest threat isn't the terrorist, it's the government reacting to the terrorist.

After reading this article , I feel that most are Numb to the everyday media blitz of the war on words. How some words can be used and other words being scrubbed. To be politically correct ! A good example of this was used by the media during the Vietnam war. To change " Search and Destroy " missions to " Sweep and Clear ". Reminds me once again how the Media and politics are used to control or sway the minds of free thinkers.... By the way I did enjoy this article. I do feel that Terrorism will sprout it's ugly head anywhere. I also feel sorrow for those whom has perished by Terror worldwide.
As A Nation we cannot afford to be complacent with Terror. To think that it is part of our everyday life. To be numb to it that we lose sense of our protection and surroundings. I for one will always be aware of my surroundings. Catastrophes, Crimes, and Terror will happen. Not if , but when ! I for one will always be vigilant.
