I would say his view represents the majority of police officers in the developed world.

The one thing that I got from this story...approach and conversation. The officer approached the young man, and the young man did not argue. Is this what we are missing? The officer's intent was not to write a ticket, but to make sure that not only the driver was safe for himself, but those around him. He wanted this young man to make it home to his mother.

I am sure as a police officer, LT. McMillian has seen his fair share of crashes due to texting and driving. I just returned from a road trip this weekend and cannot count the number of drivers that were either on their phones texting and driving. I think I am going to start taking pictures of these people just for the hell of it. Of course that will be when others are driving.
