Here's one more opinion - my wife and I paid for my two kids to go to college (undergraduate), and have we attended three schools as well. Each one of these schools asks us for more money after everyone graduates to create a "legacy for the alma mater" - this is after I already paid tuition. So, when does it stop?
If you look at the endowment of some of the schools, it could significantly reduce the cost of tuition for students. Some school's have several billion (with a "B") in the bank for future growth or whatever.... So, I put some blame on the schools.
I agree we need to pay the instructors a fair pay, but I'm not sure we need to grow some of these schools bigger than they already are (not to mention the larger they get, it seems the more impersonal they get - opinion only).
Just my humble opinion.

Sir thank you for sharing. Colleges and universities are big businesses these days. I am not sure where it ends really. At the end of the day you just gotta pick your battles and deal with the struggles. That is what life is about...

SSG Stephan Pendarvis - Well said. I also think the improvements in quality on-line education may drive more competition and cause the brick and mortar schools to get more competitive. At least that is my hope.

When I set out to find a career I first looked at what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, Then I found out what degree I would need to accomplish that goal. Most people have it backwards they go study what they want and hope to get a job doing it when they get their degree. This is a foolish and backwards way of doing it. While yes I agree that cost of school has gotten out of control people should still make smarter decisions in their choices of area of study.

CPL I totally agree with what you just wrote. That makes perfect sense. Planning is the key.

Not a freeloader...education should not be free. But the cost is astronomical!!! There has to be a way for it to be a little more affordable without the life debt attached.

SSG Stephan Pendarvis - It is called the GI Bill, which Service Members can earn, or a cheaper school. You cannot feel bad for idiots that go to an expensive school and get garbage degrees. They should have had a reality check and gone to an affordable college or got a different degree. Most of these people strapped with enormous student loans and no job prospects wasted their time in college getting drunk and getting a garbage degree. Can a liberal arts major really make the argument that they didn't know the job prospects for that degree were bad? They knew better and they made the choice. Don't feel bad for them, I don't.

Roger that....Planning is everything and you gotta know what your limit is....as far as what school to go to that is.
