My thoughts on this are all over the place. I have seen it done so being lazy, stupid and for theft. Leason learned, they moved on to doing what was needed to be done. It was never over the top, and extreme physical abuse was never used or tolerated. You humped that ruck around the yard until they told ou to stop, and then you painted rocks or cut the SMG grass that was just cut by another individual. No pen and paper 1000 word essay crap, sweat, and more sweat. And at the end of the day, someone made sure you were ok. It may seem excessive to some today, hell even back then, but I know one Marine that will never steal anything again in his life because he knows the consequences of it. Politicians think they have all the answers, pushing legislation down our throats for whatever their tiny minds think is best. From the line unit to the supply units and all others, discipline will make a unit or brake it. It does not mean you have to beat or haze those that are out of step, but it does require the means to set the tone for all to follow.....of the saop box now, have a great day.
