Capatin Durish, We have done worse to our own people than any enemy has done,
But the Japanese keep trying to forget tens of millions of murders and decades of slavery. That pisses the nation where the murders happened off. It also fouls the water when Japan want allies. The North Koreans and Chines are monsters but they are their own own monsters. Imperial Japan was a monster that inflicted pain on it neighbors with a barbarism that at least equaled Nazi Germanies.

Well guys - its like this...

WW2 is over and the Cold War is here now. NOW. Russia was our friend, now our enemy. Anyone who (1) has fought Russia before or (2) can give us an edge in fighting them is now our buddy. Like Britain "standing alone" in 1940, the Battle Of Britain was never about survival. Churchill told Hitler that he had enough gas to nuke Germany back to the stone age. Japan likewise, let it be known to the Russians that there were gas weapons awaiting them if they stepped foot on Japanese soil. Japan was likewise, further along in her nuclear studies than we give them credit for.

So...

The impetus post-war, was getting as many Russian killers on board as possible. This meant hoards of Waffen SS, SS doctors, SS scientists, German logistics gurus and on the other side of the globe, all of the Japanese science crews. Including the vivisection/chem warfare folks. Britain was about to implode financially PLUS they had just elected a government who's true intentions were not readily known. France? France was too busy rebuilding itself. So the white knight in the UN was going to have to be the USA. So sadly, the rush was on to overlook a LOT of things.

Had the Cold War not started, the Nurnburg trials would be going on to this day...

We (the US) didn't have all that many dealing with Japan prior to WWII. Not so for China and Korea who were both badly abused by Japan and who have no reason to trust the Japanese

Lt Col Charlie Brown - I'm not saying that Imperial Japan didn't do a lot of harm, kill a lot of people, and enslave Korean women in brothels. I'm only noting that the Chinese and North Koreans have done far worse to their own people

CPT Jack Durish the key is "their own". It is horrible but people are angrier and fear the other more than their own. We are onlookers to it.

We actually did have a lot of dealings with Japan up until June of 1941. They were our tool much like Russia is Germany's tool in the European Union.

Coming in at the end, middle, whatever of this but agree with you both. What Lt Col Charlie Brown says is true, but for a few lucky battle victories on our part the Japaneese could have captured the Hawaiian Islands and done to its inhabitants what they did to inhabitants of China and Korea. As CPT Jack Durish says China and North Korea have done far worse to their own people but IMO that is/was more in keeping with the philosophy of the Communist agenda in their minds. What Japan did to nations it occupied was more of a punishment for being citizens of an occupied country.

Everyone is biased. If we didn't use something as a discussion topic, there wouldn't be any discussion. Now, if you're the keeper of some approved list of sources, please publish it so we can all share a good laugh
