I remember my very first interview after I transitioned from active duty to Reserve status. It was totally miserable. I had all the qualifications and the experience for the job, but my interviewer wanted what she called "serious qualifications, not some 'boyscout' stuff". She did not recognize military service as anything but trivial nonsense.

What I learned from that interview was how to build a resume into terms a civilian would understand and how to present myself with more confidence.

It is important to network with other Vets who have made the transition and those that haven't yet. Perseverance, determination, and a little luck are good too.
