I think it just backs the theory that its not the guns, its the people. I personally own 5, two shotguns (a 20 and a 12 Gauge), a 30.06, a 50 Cal Black Powder Rifle and a 9MM Semi. I've had guns since I was 11 or 12 and have never even come close to shooting someone. I do love hunting though.

The Swiss require a negative criminal record and mental health assessment for the purchase of a gun.
IMHO anyone who would preform a mass shooting has a mental defect and many of the people who are arrested for shooting someone else already has a criminal record. Criminal do not care about a gun law that can lock them up for 5 years when they are committing Murder which SHOULD be a death sentence but mire often a 20 to 50 year jail sentence. Then they'll likely get out early anyway.

Difference is that Swiss system is more rigorous than US system. You had to apply for permit with government before being able to legally hunt. We have laws against convicted felons owning guns but many misdemeanors are not disqualifiers. Mental health screenings are not part of many state gun laws.

LTC Eugene Chu Interesting article. I would be interested in the reasoning for the nine month limitation.
