I have to beg the differ here, I think it all depends on location, and who doing the hiring if the Hiring manager is a former Veterans, your in if not don't even count on it. Too many times now I have to explain my role as Artilleryman, so I have completely removed Artillery from my resume but not Platoon Sergeant=Director or personnel because I at one time was in charge of a bunch of people/soldiers. I'm not saying hiring Veterans is a good thing but I struggled for the first 3 years before I landed this current security job I'm in now. Working for a COLA company is not a bad gig but when you have a non educated 27 year telling a 40 year old combat veteran what to do, I did not understand that and that was my hardest thing to get over, young civilian bosses. It is still like that today, but I can see a big difference where I work because of Leadership and education. Interesting article and I enjoyed reading it. I do have to say for us combat arms veterans it is much harder for us to land civilian type jobs in the civilian sector because of training and the environment that we came from. These Chat forums a quite interesting sometimes because it has been along road and here on RP we can express where and what has happen to us and what long and short term goals we are looking for. With out those you have nothing. I just happen to land my job in a military environment and with DOD not a lot transitioning soldiers get that opportunity and that why we have social media to help guide them in the direction that they need to go in today.
