I think the 100 days does set the tone for the presidency. The first impression is a lasting one.

This was definitely true of my impressions regarding President Obama's time in office. In my observation (which I in no way claim are accurate), early extreme compromises with congress and corporations definitely seemed to become the status quo very quickly. I didn't see much of a change in this pattern throughout the presidency.

It's compared to FDRs first 100 days. Also it's when the new president has the most goodwill
