Why is the F.D.A. encouraging people to receive a Covid-19 vaccine — but hasn’t formally approved those vaccines?

Even as President Biden, the C.D.C. and virtually the entire scientific community are urging — pleading with, even — Americans to get vaccinated, the government has not formally approved any vaccine. The Food and Drug Administration has instead given only “emergency use authorization” to the shots from Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson. That’s a temporary form of approval that allows people to receive shots while the agency continues to study their effectiveness and safety.

Re-read about differences between emergency use authorization and traditional approval. We are still dealing with public health crisis which has not ended yet.

Go gently now. I provided the content of the story rather than the link because few on RP have subscriptions to the NY Times. Challenging my "claim" is dancing close to questioning my integrity and I'm rather old fashioned in my ways. I post many opinions on social media (including RP) and make no "claims" about them. As my big brother always tells me, "trust the process... You're not the only one trying to get through...won't be the first... won't be the last...trust the process". This article is responding to a growing concern from mostly people unaware of the process of full FDA approval and that is fair. The problem arises when the conspiracy nutjobs start creating bs narratives to try to explain from their political perches. This vaccine effort has been pretty monumental and I doubt we will see it again in our lifetime. But it is still a process designed to prevent the same complaining nutjob conspiracy folk from complaining the gov is trying to kill them with rushed vaccine approvals.

It's all about compliance and power. Nothing more. We're continually told to "follow the science" and yet they ignore what the science says. Anyone who disagrees with their story is dismissed as a charlatan. Anti-vaxxer.

SFC Bernard Walko - I agree 100%. The powers that be put all of their weight and faith in him. They went all in with Fauci. If they let it be known that he was wrong all along, their whole house of cards will fall.
