Are Army officers still trained to eat last? In my day, officers ate last to learn what the troops were eating, even those at the end of the line. In fact, officers served the food in the mess halls (or mess tents) on holidays. We honored our enlisted men and women. It was fun. So, are Army officers still taught to eat last?

most interesting ... I know the Mess halls/Dining facilities the Officers ate at separate table but they went thru with the Troops and they were fed the same chow as the rest In the field they went thru at the end of the Line to ensure all their Troops were fed and checked on them much like the old Army Officers were in the infantry units

Yes sir. Our LTC at ROTC preaches it to the younger cadets. You do not eat before your soldiers.

Standard practice is to go from junior to senior (regardless of whether you are officer or enlisted), i.e. if you outrank them, they eat first.
