I spotted this a while ago. When I was a teenager a Milwaukee to Twin CIties flight took maybe 40 minutes total from board to disembark. True that was during the regulated airline era on North Central Airlines. However, these days it is almost doubled in time. Some of the delay is the extensive taxing that needs to be done now with larger airports but a good portion is due to airlines milking it by flying a lot slower to save money on fuel. The whole "time is money" principal is out the window. Though I will note Southwest Airlines flys fast on most of it's competitive routes as the article states and is faster by 15-20 min that a comparable flight from DFW airport.
