It may never reach the public market. At least until companies are " Allowed" to bring it to market, by the Government.
Remember, even WWII had innovations that are just now being set free to be in the Public domain.
Priority calling had been used in Military long before it was let in to the public domain.

LOL! Good luck with that. I can't wait to see the energy needed for any synthetic fuel production scheme. It's been terrible so far, when successful. Hydrocarbons are rich in energy and it's easily accessible. Extracting energy from things that are not rich in energy requires more energy than is accessible.
