The author makes some compelling points. However, the other side of the argument is that we got earmarks for things the secretaries of the Services did not need or want (yes, we called it pork), and we had to reorder our internal priorities. It did not make us better equipped for war. But that is Congress' job--decide how to spend the money. I do not believe that anyone, including the SecDef, has a handle right now on what we are buying and why, and how it aligns with the overall defense needs. I will have to think on this one a little.

Col Joseph Lenertz: I agree, Colonel. If we aren't equipped for war, we will be in a sad state of affairs.
