All who serve fear war. Reasonably so. However, fear is not necessarily a self-fulfilling prophecy. Much of it is engendered by the media who use fear to persuade people to vote for their favorite cause, their favorite party, and service men and women are not immune to their words. The same was true in President Reagan's time. The media joined his political opposition. Soon the whole world was chanting the same dirge. Reagan is a cowboy. He's taking the world to war. Interestingly, he had quite the opposite effect. Maybe President Trump will too...

MSG Stan Hutchison - Truman? Truman pissed off the French by refusing to get involved in Indochina. JFK pussyfooted around the issue (many believe that he was on the verge of pulling out when he was assassinated). LBJ is the one who really committed and committed to the wrong strategy. Both JFK and LBJ thought we were fighting an insurgency. It was an invasion and Gen Abrams had the right idea: Push into North Vietnam and put an end to it. Unlike Korea, China couldn't have simply walked across a border to counter attack

CPT Jack Durish - 1. I was responding to MCPO Collins remarks abut JFK, not laying blame or credit for that fiasco.
2. I believe it was an insurgency, not an invasion. How can citizens of a nation invade their own country? I assume you have read "The Road not taken?" That book highlights the mistakes made when we thought it was an invasion.

MCPO Roger Collins - You forgot about Urgent Fury and Just Cause during Reagan's time and Desert Storm during George H. Bush's time.

LTC Eugene Chu Were those military actions referred to as war? Howling did they last? What were the casualties? Get serious.

I suspect that we may intervene in Venezuela.
That mess down there has significant strategic and humanitarian repercussions.
I think it would be a mistake, unless we secure the cooperation of at least Columbia and preferably more regional states. However, Columbia has thus far been adamant that it is a bad idea to intervene there militarily. Can't say I disagree with them.
