Why veterans tapping a drink on the bar is a sign of respect

Sorry to burst the bubble here but it's just an old bar tradition that has nothing to do with the military. Tapping your drink or shot on the bar after a toast is a way of thanking the bartender. The majority of heavy drinkers I've ever known do this regardless of military affiliation.
