Why World War II-Era Soldiers Didn't Use Their Helmet's Chin Strap

That’s what I wore from 1956 to the end of Vietnam - hadn’t changed since WWII and Korea. I have to admit that I felt a lot safer with the Kevlar after I re-enlisted Infantry at age 47. You can see my Kevlar in my profile photo.

I remember in Nam we very seldom wore our helmets and when we did we never wore the chin strap,
why? don't know just never did. I was in the Inf. and going thru the jungle it was cumbersome, we used to hang it on our side using the chin strap on our canteen, crazy huh. We would ware our brash cap instead.
