They seem to know when their number is up, and when it isn't.

Remember when in college we were out feeding cattle in a field on my roommates farm. Saw all sorts of wild turkey so when we finished went in to get our guns. Came back to field and not a turkey in sight.

I've never hunted turkey but have been told that they are extremely wily (more so than a coyote)

I can vouch for that. Following the incident above we decided to bring rifles when we went to feed cattle. Never saw a turkey in the field again if had rifles with us.

Sometimes the strangest things happen, I sat in my turkey blind one spring and had a Weasle come in and made itself at home with me for about two hours, blew my mind

I drove the family to Rocky Mountain National Park one summer and people were feeding chipmunks that had climbed on top of a wall separating the parking lot from a scenic overlook. I climbed over and sat on the ground to get a different view of my kids feeding them. In no time I was covered with chipmunks and everybody was taking pictures of me
