This falls into the "WTF" category. And I quote: "Army spokesman Lt. Col. Jerry Pionk said the service "will need the facts and clarifications from law enforcement to make future determinations" regarding Brown's situation. Such facts likely won't be available while the shooting remains under investigation."
And then we have "Peter Cook, the Pentagon press secretary, said Thursday that whether Brown would qualify "has to do with the definition of the event, the Justice Department's own determination of what was carried out there -- so it's not necessarily in our hands in terms of the formal designation. My take is duty status be damn, he was an reserve officer and killed in a terrorist attack...give his grieving family the medal. As far as I am concerned this is another case of the reserves pulling the short end of the stick. If he were an "active component" Soldier, the chain of command would be rushing to awarding the Purple Heart.
What say you all?

Yes wouldn't the shootings at Ft Hood Texas by Major Hassan be the precedent for awarding a Purple Heart to Cpt Brown?? Those killed and wounded did receive a Purple Heart but it took some time because the Obama Administration had labeled this tragedy "Work Place Violence" which didn't allow for awarding Purple Hearts to the victims..
And the Marines and Sailor killed last summer at Chattanooga were all awarded the Purple Heart.

My only gripe with what was written is that it wasn't a terrorist attack. The shooter didn't have any actual ties to any terror group according to the FBI and CIA

TSgt (Join to see) - Ok thanx but my best guess is the Army will award this Reserve Capt a Purple Heart Medal .. And the FBI said yesterday at their news conference they still have lots of work yet to do in this case..
