I was pure Dodger blue as a kid. As always, the LA/SF rivalry drew packed stadiums. We couldn't afford to go but I made a crystal radio to listen to the games at night. And Willie was a BEAST! I remember Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale would pitch him very carefully. Turns out it was always a good battle. Vin Scully would do the play by play so well. Yup, Willie was a fixture and the game is much the better for him.

Q: what do the Dodgers & the late Michael Jackson have in common?
A: they all wear a glove on one hand for no apparent reason...

Don't get me going on all the Candlestick jokes. I did get to take in a game in SF at the new park. Funny seeing people out in kayaks waiting for the dingers to right. Nice stadium. Remember getting an "I Survived" pin at Candlestick when the games went extra innings. It was cold in July. Go figure.

One of my childhood heroes growing up in SF in the 60's and 70's. Some of my fondest memories are of attending sunday double headers at candilstick park with my father watching the two Willies and other Giant icon play ball. He will be missed but never forgotten
