Glad to report Ellsworth AFB is still open and running. Just watched a B-1B take off.

Having been born & raised in Northern New York State, I am just bit astonished to learn of Ft. Drum being "closed" due to harsh weather conditions. As I recall, the Tenth Mountain Division was stationed at Drum for precisely that kind of weather. As a boy, the marine Corps also maintained a presence there during the winter weather (Operation SNOWFLEX) for accommodating troops to harsh weather conditions. I understand civilian employees commuting, but for goodness sake, THEY LIVE THERE and are (or should be) USED TO THE WEATHER. As for the other military bases, I will not comment.

In reading the comments at the end of the article, it went downhill real fast. What is truly sad is that some of that ignorance shows up in the comments here on RP.

If you have the time to read it, an excellent article on the topic.

Texas’ natural gas production just froze under pressure
Freeze-offs slashed natural gas production.
